Re: Sporniket's installation
About the ide module, the jumpers explaination is on the other side of the module :
So I changed JP2 to 5V position, and also marked the 5V pin with a red dot (probed with my multimeter too)
Then I plug the power cable

Re: Sporniket's installation
I plug the module back into the smartboard
Switch on, something happens (plus leds of the IDE module are lit now, I can see RED and GREEN lights), but not what I expected
It seems that my CF card was toasted from a previous experiment years ago (my linux computer cannot event do something with it), I need to buy a new one to do another try. I will report about it as soon I am ready again with that.

Re: Sporniket's installation
Anyway, the hardware part is done, it's time to put the motherboard into its casing.
Armed : Slot1 :
By the way, here are some pictures of how it looks like with the casing closed, and the LED module doing its work :Armed : Slot1 :

Re: Sporniket's installation
So I will have some time before ordering and getting a CF card ready. Meanwhile, next weekend, I will setup and test the RTC.

Re: Sporniket's installation
So from what I read in your log all TOS versions that I flashed hang during boot with the CF card inserted in the CF card adapter?
Never had problems with my CF-Cards but all I have are made by Kingston. If your Linux box cannot use it then the card seems to be bricked.
Don't forget that there a maximum sizes for partitions under different TOS version:
https://www.hddriver.net/en/faq.html Section What is the maximum partition size supported by HDDRIVER?
If I am not mistaken then IDE on Ataris uses 28Bit LBA addressing which would result in 2^28 * 2^9 (512Byte sectors) = 2^37 Byte = 128GB.
I have new 120GB SSDs and IDE2SATA adapters here. Think I will check them with HDDRUTIL...
And keep in mind that the battery holder has an ON/OFF switch.

No, only the patched TOS on coldstart are blocked. On warm start, I get to the desktop.Administrator wrote: ↑19 Nov 2023 08:50So from what I read in your log all TOS versions that I flashed hang during boot with the CF card inserted in the CF card adapter?

Thanks for the reminder about partition size and the baterry holder switch.

Re: Sporniket's installation
No luck with HDDRUTIL and a 120GB Intenso SSD. The device name of the SSD was displayed garbled and trying to partition it HDDRUTL popped up an alert box that it cannot read the root sector. No problem, never intended to use a SSD in the STE anyway.

Re: Sporniket's installation
Had some time today and programmed a little tool that will check if the DMA-INT line is connected properly. An IDE device must be connected (HDD type, CF-Card, SD-Card, DOM,... not CD-ROM, DVD-ROM) as the Master device. The tool will try to read sector 0 of the storage device. On success the IDE device will assert its INT which will be inverted by SmartBoard (IDE INT is active high while MFP interrupts are active low) and the software checks for a low-level on that particular MFP pin.

Re: Sporniket's installation
This week-end I will check the RTC capabilities as planned, will post about it later. Next week there is pay day, I will be able to order a new compact flash. I will test your program at that point.
