ST BusSpeeder

Post by Administrator »

20 years ago I upgraded a 520ST from 8MHz to 16MHz bus speed i.e. CPU and RAM were clocked with 16MHz, a 100% increase in speed. That way I was able to use a RSVE RS232 speeder with 38400bps and use the ST as an answering/fax machine. The old PCB was single sided home-brew type i.e. ugly :D
This year I reworked the design for SMD part use and it's ready for testing:

As the ST's clock tree needs to be revised some tracks on the ST's mainboard need to be cut! You need a 16MHz CPU and you probably need to replace the RAM as this project needs 70ns DRAM. So if you haven't done it yet it's a good idea to upgrade to 4MB with a PS/2 SIMM for example.
This project is definitely NOT for hardware rookies. The original design was created by Stefan Nitschke.
